Eligibility for NPS

In order to join NPS, one should satisfy all of the following conditions:

  1. Applicant should be a citizen of India, whether resident or non-resident
  2. Applicant's age should be between 18 and 65 years as on the date of submission of his/ her NPS application
  3. Applicant must comply with the Know Your Customer (KYC) norms

Who cannot Join NPS?

Following persons cannot join NPS:

  1. Pre-existing account holders under NPS
  2. Individuals of unsound mind
  3. Un-discharged insolvent
  4. HUF, OCI and POI cannot open NPS account

NPS Account Eligibility for NRI

Non-Residential Indians (NRIs) can also open NPS account and contribute the funds into the account in order to get pension after their retirement. The eligibility criteria for NRIs to open an NPS account are as follows:

  1. NRI applicant should age between 18 years -60 years
  2. He/she should not be of unsound mind
  3. He/she should not be an un-discharged insolvent
  4. OCI and POI cannot open NPS account
  5. He/she must complete the KYC norms
  6. He/she should make the contributions towards the NPS account either from an NRE or NRO accountonly

Document Required for NPS

Following document are required for NPS:

  1. Completely filled in Subscriber Registration Form
  2. Proof of identity
  3. Proof of address
  4. Proof of date of birth
