How to Apply for Renewal of Driving Licence? (Online/Offline)

The validity of a driving Licence is usually 20 years. Driving Licence is valid till the date as shown in the driving Licence. Before the validity of driving licence gets over, it should be renewed. As per the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, an individual can apply for renewal of driving licence any time between one year before its expiry and up to one after its expiry. This would mean that if your driving licence is expiring in October 2020, then you can apply for renewal from October 2019 till October 2021. However, if you apply for renewal after one year of expiry of licence then you will be required to undertake the driving licence test once again.

Important to note that if an accident occurs after the expiry of your Driving Licence, the insurance company will not provide the compensation and you will also be at fault in the eyes of the law.

An application for renewal shall be entertained not more than one month before the date of expiry of the licence. If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the licence, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh licence.

Documents Required for Renewal of Driving Licence

1. Application in Form 9
2. Original Driving Licence
3. Form 1A duly filled by a certified doctor (If the applicant is above the age of 40 years)
4. 2 copies of recent passport size photograph
5. Self-Attested copies of Valid Proof of age and residence
6. Form 1 self-declaration of physical fitness
7. Prescribed fee for renewal of DL

For commercial licence, following additional documents are required:

1. Medical Certificate in form No.1A (In case of Commercial category)
2. Driver refreshing Training certificate in case of HMV

How to Change Address in Driving Licence?

With effect from September 1, 2019, if you wish to change the residence address or place of business in your driving licence, then same can be done online and you can apply for this to any registering authority within the state.
