Contributions to PPF Account
Contribution by a person can be made in a PPF Account which is either held under his/ her own name or on behalf of a minor.
As per the PPF rules following contributions to a PPF account can be made:
- Minimum contribution: Rs 500 per financial year
- Maximum contribution: Rs 1.5 lakh per financial year
Number of Contributions
You can make either lump sum contribution or can make monthly contributions. The maximum number of monthly contributions cannot exceed 12 in a financial year.
It is important to note that the lock-in period of 15 years in a PPF account starts from the end of the financial year in which the account was opened and first contribution was made. Hence, if you make one lump sum annual contribution, then you make a total of 16 and not 15 contributions during the tenure of the PPF scheme.
In case you are making monthly contributions, you will be making 192 contributions (16 x 12) during the entire tenure of PPF scheme.
