How to Link Aadhaar to PAN?

The deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar earlier was December 31, 2019 but now as per the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) notification dated December 31, 2019, the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar has been extended by 3 more months to March 31, 2020. If you link your PAN to Aadhaar then you can get many advantages such as you can e-verify your ITR using Aadhaar, your PAN will not become inoperative, etc.

If you do not link your PAN with your Aadhaar, then your PAN will become inoperative from April 1, 2020 which would mean that an individual will not be able to use the PAN to carry out financial transactions and you could also be subject to a higher rate of tax due to non-availability of PAN.

For linking Aadhaar to PAN, you need to follow a process which is quite simple and you can do it online by sitting at home or any other place. You need not go anywhere.

Process to Link Aadhaar to PAN

Firstly, You can check PAN-Aadhaar Linking Status on the Income Tax India website. If your aadhaar is not linked to PAN then you may go through the following process to get them linked.

A step by step process of linking Aadhaar to PAN online is outlined below:

1. You need to visit the official e-filing website of the I-T department to link aadhaar to PAN. Click HERE to open Income tax India e-filing website for linking Aadhaar to PAN online
2. Enter your PAN
3. Enter your Aadhaar number
4. Enter your name as per your Aadhaar
5. Tick on the check box stating "I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI"
6. Then, enter captcha code in the box provided
7. Visually challenged users can use OTP option in lieu of entering captcha code
8. Click on "Link Aadhaar" button

Link Aadhaar to PAN using SMS

Send an SMS in the below-mentioned format to either 567678 or 56161. After sending the SMS, you will be notified after processing of your request of the PAN-Aadhaar linking is done successfully:

UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><SPACE><10 digit PAN>

For example: UIDPAN 123456789123 ABCDE1234F

Important Points regarding Link Aadhaar to PAN

• Name, Date of Birth and Gender as per PAN will be validated against your Aadhaar Details
• You need to make sure that "Aadhaar Number" and "Name as per AADHAAR" is exactly the same as printed on your Aadhaar card
• The OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered/linked to the Aadhaar number
• If there is a mismatch in the details of PAN and Aadhaar, you should get them corrected before linking them
