Aadhaar Updation Process to Update Name, Address and Date of Birth

Earlier, it used to be a tedious procedure to update the demographic details such as name, address, date of birth, gender, etc. on your Aadhaar, as you were required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center in order to update the Aadhaar details of you or your family member on aadhaar card.

Now, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made Aadhaar Updation Process more easy, wherein you can update the demographic details such as name, address, date of birth, gender, etc. online. Hence, if any of your demographic details viz., Name, Address, Date-of-Birth, Gender, Mobile Number, Email ID, etc. is not correct or up-to-date on your Aadhaar Card, you can get the same updated online sitting at home.

It is to be remembered that aadhaar registered mobile number is mandatory for any online Aadhaar update request because you will receive an OTP (One Time Password) for authentication of your request for aadhaar details updation on your registered mobile number only, which you need to enter at the time of making such request.

If your mobile number it not registered in the UIDAI's records, then you need to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to get it registered before placing aadhaar update request through an online mode.

Outlined below are the steps to be followed for updation of name on Aadhaar online:

  1. Go to the official website of UIDAI
  2. Now click on 'My Aadhaar' tab from the top menu
  3. Under 'My Aadhaar' tab, select 'Update Demographics Date Online’
  4. Under this section, you can update your details viz. Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Address, Email ID, Mobile Number and Language online
  5. Click on the 'Proceed to Update Aadhaar’ button
  6. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number and captcha code
  7. Click on 'Send OTP' button
  8. A 6-digit OTP will be sent on your registered mobile number, now enter the OTP and press 'Login' button to proceed further
  9. Now you will be logged in
  10. Under 'My Aadhaar' tab, select 'Update Demographics Date Online'
  11. Select the option 'Name' that you want to update and enter the details i.e. correct name
  12. Upload the scanned copy of valid supporting document for making necessary update in the prescribed format and size. For making updation in name, you will be required to submit a scanned copy of proof of identity e.g. PAN, Passport, Ration/ PDS Photo Card, Voter ID, Driving License, etc.
  13. Once it is done, you will be required to pay a fee of Rs.50/-
  14. After payment is made, an update request number (URN) will be generated
  15. Download this URN for future reference

Online Process to Update Address in Aadhaar

Detailed below is the process to be followed for updation of address on Aadhaar online:

  1. Visit the official website of UIDAI
  2. Now click on 'My Aadhaar' tab from the top menu
  3. Under 'My Aadhaar' tab, select 'Update Demographics Date Online’
  4. Under this section, you can update your details viz. Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Address, Email ID, Mobile Number and Language online
  5. Click on the 'Proceed to Update Aadhaar’ button
  6. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number and captcha code
  7. Click on 'Send OTP' button
  8. A 6-digit OTP will be sent on your registered mobile number, now enter the OTP and press 'Login' button to proceed further
  9. Now you will be logged in
  10. Under 'My Aadhaar' tab, select 'Update Demographics Date Online'
  11. Select the option 'Address' that you want to update and enter the details i.e. new address
  12. Upload the scanned copy of valid supporting document for making necessary update in the prescribed format and size. For making updation in address, you will be required to submit a scanned copy of proof of address e.g. Bank Statement/ Passbook, Passport, Ration Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months), etc.
  13. Once it is done, you will be required to pay a fee of Rs.50/-
  14. After payment is made, an update request number (URN) will be generated
  15. Download this URN for future reference

Quick Way to Change Date of Birth in Aadhaar Online

Follow the steps below to update the date of birth on your Aadhaar card online:

Mark sheet issued by any Government Board or University, etc.
  13. Once it is done, you will be required to pay a fee of Rs.50/-
  14. After payment is made, an update request number (URN) will be generated
  15. Download this URN for future reference

Charges for Demographic Updation

  • At present any demographic update such as updation in name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, etc. is charged at Rs 50.
  • Such charges will be same no matter you place the updation request online or by visiting Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
  • Updation of more than one field (on single instance) will be considered as single update

Important Points regarding Aadhaar Updation Process

  • If you are updating the demographic details online through Self Service Update Portal (SSUP), your mobile number must be registered with Aadhaar
  • You will be required to upload original scanned copies(scanned with color scanner) of the supporting document as per the valid documents list
  • Attach a clear image the supporting document in the prescribed size (not be more than 2 MB) and format (JPEG, PNG or PDF) else it will get rejected
  • Name can be updated only twice in the life time
  • You can update your name, only if such change is minor such as spelling correction, short form to full form, etc. or name change after marriage
  • Gender can be updated only once in the life time
  • For gender updation, you require an OTP authentication via mobile or face authentication
  • Date of birth can be updated only once in the life time
  • Apart from demographic updation, for any other updates like Head of family/ guardian details or biometric update, you need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrolment/ Update Centre
  • You can check the update status under same My Aadhaar>Update Your Aadhaar>Check online demographics update status, after 24 hours from submission of updation request
