6 Tips to Check Provident Fund Balance
By Anupama Deshpande | Jan 01, 2019

Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) is a scheme under the Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. The fund collected under the scheme is managed by Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Whenever any company employs 20 or more employees, it needs to be registered under EPFO and deduct PF of all its employees.

Under this scheme, the employee as well as the employer has to make a fixed contribution i.e. 12%. These funds will be managed by EPFO. The employee will get a lump sum amount with interest on his/ her retirement from EPFO against such contributions made during the service period made by the employee as well as the employer.

There are following 6 Tips to Check Provident Fund Balance:

(1) PF Statement given by the employer

PF statement is given annually by the employer to its employees once a year after the completion of each financial year which has the details of all the contributions made by the employee and the employer and interest thereon.

(2) Through SMS

Lenders also pay attention towards the employment status that you have. Whether you are salaried or self-employed? If you are salaried then they will check:

  • For how long are you working?
  • Who is your employer?
  • Since when you are working with your existing employer?

(3) Through Missed Call

For this facility you have to give a missed call on 011-22901406 from your mobile number registered with UAN.

You will receive the details of your latest contribution and latest PF balance on your mobile registered with EPFO. For using this facility, it is required that your UAN should be registered with EPFO. Also it is necessary to get your UAN seeded with your bank account number, Aadhaar and PAN by your employer.

(4) Through Umang App

In order to view your PF balance on mobile phone, you can download and use Umang App launched by the government of India. After downloading this App, you first have to complete the registration process and then you will be able to use all the options available in the app.

Through this app, you can not only view your PF balance but can also view your PF passbook, can make claim, etc.

(5) Through EPFO Website

You can check your PF balance by visiting the website of www.epfindia.gov.in, login using your UAN and password and then using the services offered by this portal.

(6) Through EPFO App

You can download EPFO's m-sewa App from Google Play Store and then enter your UAN and registered mobile number. Now you can check your PF balance by clicking on 'Member' option and then on 'Balance/ Passbook' option.
