Now, it is possible for you to apply for PAN online, although partially as even after applying for PAN card online, you still have to send the acknowledgment receipt to National Securities Depository (NSDL). Outlined below is the step-by-step process to apply for PAN Card Online:

Apply Online through NSDL Website

  1. Visit the https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html NSDL website
  2. In the drop down box of Application type, select the online form 49A for applying for the new PAN Card for Indian Citizens
  3. Choose the Category from individual, firm, company, trust or association of person
  4. Fill in your personal details in the form such as title, last name/ surname, middle name, first name, date of birth or date of incorporation, email address and mobile number
  5. Enter the captcha code
  6. Check again all the details filled in by you
  7. Click on "Submit" button
  8. After that you will be directed to the payment gateway where you need to pay fee to get a new PAN card. You can pay online through credit card, debit card or net banking
  9. After successful payment, you will be allotted an acknowledgement number
  10. You need to take print out of the acknowledgement receipt and need to send it to the income tax department along with the Identity proof and Address proof within 15 days of online application

Apply Online through UTIITSL Website

  1. Visit the https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/panonline_ipg/forms/pan.html/preForm UTIITSL website
  2. Select the status of the applicant from individual, firm, company, trust or association of person
  3. Choose PAN CARD Mode from two options (1) Both physical PAN Card and e-PAN or (2) e-PAN only, No physical PAN Card will be dispatched
  4. Click on "Submit" button
  5. Fill the form 49A such as name, name on card, date of birth, residential address, office state and aadhaar details.
  6. Click on "Next Step"
  7. Enter documents details
  8. Click on "Next Step"
  9. Key in contact & parent details in the form
  10. Click on "Next Step"
  11. Insert address details
  12. Click on "Next Step"
  13. Enter other details as required in the form
  14. Click on "Next Step"
  15. Upload the required documents such as proof of identity, proof of address and proof of date of birth.
  16. Press "Submit" to complete the application process
  17. Now you will be taken to the payment page where one can pay fees for PAN card through credit card, debit card or net banking
  18. On successful payment, the acknowledgement receipt is displayed containing acknowledgement number
  19. You need to take print out of the acknowledgement receipt and need to submit the application form along with the copies of the supporting documents for address proof, identity proof and the date of birth to the nearest UTIITSL centre for verification
  20. After processing your application, the PAN number will sent to your email id and PAN Card will be dispatched to the your residential address which usually takes 15 days' time
