Types of PAN Card

(1) PAN Card for Individuals
This is the most common type of the PAN Card. You need to fill up Form 49A to apply for it. Resident Indians, minors and students fall under this type of PAN card.

(2) PAN Card for NRI or PIO
PAN is also issued to the NRIs and PIOs for the purpose of taxation in India. One needs to fill up Form 49A to apply for it.

(3) PAN Card for Foreign Entity
PAN is also issued to the Foreign Entity which is registered outside India but needs to pay tax in India. Unlike resident Indians who must fill PAN application form 49A, they need to fill up Form 49AA to apply for a PAN card.

(4) PAN Card for Companies
You need to fill up Form 49A to apply for it for applying for a PAN card for companies registered in India. It looks almost similar to PAN card for individuals and the only difference is that you will not find any photograph on the PAN card issued to a company. The registration date of companies is mentioned on the PAN card.

(5) PAN Card for OCI and NRE
Overseas Citizens of India and Non Resident Entities can also apply for a PAN Card. They need to fill up Form 49AA to apply for a PAN Card.
