Who can Apply for PAN Card?

All taxpayers whether individuals and entities, resident Indians and NRIs, need to apply for PAN Card. Such persons get a Permanent Account Number (PAN) issued by the Income Tax Department under the Income Tax Act, 1961 which is a unique identity number.

Following persons are eligible to apply for PAN Card:

  • Individual
  • Minor
  • Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
  • Firm
  • Limited Liability Partnership
  • Trust
  • Company
  • Organisation
  • Local Authority
  • Artificial Juridical Person
  • Governments
  • Association of Persons
  • Body of Individuals

Above persons can also request for a correction/ updation on PAN card. The Income Tax Department has an authority to levy a penalty upon taxpayers who do not have a PAN card or having more than one PAN of the same person.
