How to Apply for Duplicate RC?

One needs to apply for a duplicate registration certificate (RC), in case the original registration certificate (RC) of his vehicle is lost, mutilated, torn or used-up. He is required to apply for duplicate RC to the registering authority by whom the original certificate of registration was issued. This duplicate registration certificate (RC) is issued to the registered owner.

How to Apply for Duplicate RC?

A step-by-step process to apply for duplicate RC has been given below:

  1. In case, original RC is lost, you need to report to the police station in the jurisdiction of which the loss or destruction has occurred
  2. Inform about the loss of original RC to the registering authority by whom the certificate of registration was issued in writing
  3. Apply in Form 26 for duplicate RC to the last registering authority
  4. Pay appropriate fee as specified in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989
  5. Submit the receipt of payment of fee as specified in in Rule 81 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989
  6. Attach all the required documents (as mentioned below) with Form 26

Documents Required for Duplicate RC

  • Police certificate
  • Affidavit stating that RC is lost and has not been impounded
  • Signature Identification of owner
  • Chassis & Engine Pencil Print
  • Valid insurance certificate
  • Pollution under control certificate (PUC)
  • Proof of address (Ration card, Electricity bill etc.)
  • Copy of PAN card of Form 60 and Form 61 (as applicable)
  • Challan clearance from traffic police & Enforcement wing Transport Department in commercial vehicles
  • Tax clearance from Accounts Department in commercial vehicles
